Can someone tell me if I’m I a hipster…?

My favorite bands are Radiohead, The Beatles, Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Ween, Beirut, David Bowie, and I do hate most mainstream music. My favorite movies are Spinal Tap, Fight Club, and The Blues Brothers. I wear somewhat skinny jeans, vans or converse, and a lot of band shirts, I also sometimes wear scarves. I would say that I’m more in the know about politics and world issue than most people at my school. I play the mandolin and am going to buy a uke. I’m in high school yet I have a record player and buy vinyl. I’m pretty down to earth and I hate people who judge other people. I’m constantly accused of being a hipster from all my friends, it doesn’t make me mad, but I’m kind of curious if I am one.

Music: What is vinyl?

Like music-wise… isn’t it like a record with only one or two songs on it? I want to buy a 10-inch vinyl from one of my favorite bands mostly because it’s limited edition and I’d like to hang it on my wall or something, but can you play them on a cd player? I’ve heard they also have a different sound to them.

How much could I get for a defective copy of Phaedra by Tangerine Dream on eBay?

I bought a vinyl copy of Phaedra the other day, and both sides of the record have the same thing….

There is no “Phaedra” track, just two of every song on the second side.
So how much could I get for it?

Looking to buy a record player…?

Hey everyone,

From what I hear, if you’re into music, the best way to go as far as listening is Vinyl. Is this true? Is the quality really that much better than CD?

And also, what are some good ones to look at if I’m wanting to buy? Note, this is for listening purposes only. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for all the answers so far. But to be clear, I’m looking for specific models/brands in which to look into. Something that’s good and reasonably priced(Not cheap, just a fair price.)

Also don’t you think it would be weird listening to Kings Of Leon or John Mayer on a Vinyl record?

What’s the word on these new Blue Ray and other DVD players?

Should I still keep buying the current DVDs, or will they end up like vinyl records, and I’ll have to replace them?

My hope is that the new DVD player technologies will support the older format of DVDs.

Help with recording vinyl to my computer ?

I’ve done this before with a mixer but I do not have it anymore and no money to buy one.

I have a mini stereo system with Aux/Video In.

Will Aux/Video In have the RIAA EQ presets needed for the records ?

Or does the stereo have to have a actual “Phono” input ?

Is the Aux/Phono on my stereo considered a pre-amp ?

I can get sound and see the waveforms in Audacity but it seems “lower” than should be. For one the waveform cannot clip with the volume all the way up, which is good but Iam not sure Iam getting the best sound.

I have the turntable rca going to the aux/video in, on the stereo. Then a 3.5 to 3.5 cable from the stereos headphone to the computers line-in.

I have played with and turned off the stereos bass and eq and adjusted the volume on the stereo and computers master volume and linein volume and audacitys volume.
I meant is the Aux/Video on my stereo considered a preamp ?

why does vinyl sound so great?

i just recently fixed a turntable given to me, went out and bought a few records and they all sound great.
the difference really makes me like to listen to music all the time.
