How To Record On Vinyl

Question for pro DJs?

i play a lot of electronic music such as midi stuff and i also record music onto my computer all the time. im not talking into a built in mic on a macbook. i know quite a bit about music and electronic music but the one i am not that good at is scratching and its something i really want to get good at. so a question for any professional djs is where do i start. as in some basic or instructions or where i can find them. what to buy and how to learn. thanks. and btw i want to do something digital, without vinyls

For Those Of You Still Buy CDs/Vinyls?

How often do you actually listen to them?

I still buy CDs but I don’t really listen to them that much once I put the music on my iPod. I keep getting them though because I like to have a physical copy of the album and all the artwork/linear notes that comes along with it.

BQ: Last physical copy of an album that you bought?
BQ2: Are there any record labels that release a lot of your favourite music?
BQ3: What was the last dream you had?
The title should be “For Those Of You Who Still Buy CDs/Vinyls?”

what was the band that got you into music as a whole?

I honestly must admit to my cliche.. when I was 10, my Mom use to own every single Beatles vinyl ever made.. this was circa 98-99 and I thought it was just “hippie crap” but that was because I just heard the music, I did not actually listen, well, when I snuck one Beatles record.. I think it was the Sgt Peppers album because I wanted to know what was so “greaT” about the band and well.. from that day on I listened to so many bands and have picked up learning how to make my own songs, playing guitar, and Every night after that one, I would would listen to the Beatles constantly, and My love for music, while not trying to be cocky, is greater than most, I love music, its not something I turn on to go to work, or something I listen to at a party.. even though both are great, its like my entire life is a soundtrack, I love music.

so enough of my rambling, lol what about you? what band or artist got you into music?

What is a better present for my boyfriend?

A) A record player- he mentioned how it would be nice to have a record player because of the great sound quality. He was imagining how great the Beatles would sound on vinyl while holding it up at the store.

B) A gift basket filled with little gifts and mementos…like for example getting him a t-shirt for a favourite videogame, his favourite chocolate, and writing him little notes

Thankyou! As well if you could think of some other solution that works well, I’d love to hear it!

P.S.-He is a total videogame and science nerd who’s into music and football if that helps put things into perspective.
He didn’t ask me for a record player, I was just shopping with him a few months ago while he was looking at vinyls.

Did anyone do a Biology Cell Size Lab?

Biology Lab: Cell Size Limits

Observation: Cells depend on a variety of passive and active processes to move nutrients, wastes, signaling molecules, ions and other substances through the cell membrane. Textbooks tell us that the amount of cell surface available for a given volume of cell interior creates a limit on the metabolic activities of the cell — in order to meet its minimum needs for survival, the cell remain small so that there is an adequate amount of membrane structure to handle the various transportation requirements. This is often expressed mathematically by calculating and comparing the surface-area-to-volume ratio of various-sized cubes.

Research Problem: Do cells of different surface-area-to-volume ratios demonstrate differing diffusion efficiencies at larger sizes?

This question suggests an investigation which compares diffusion efficiency across several alternative cell sizes. Diffusion is a process which moves major amounts of materials across cell membranes and through the cytoplasm of cells. To model cells, we will be using Agar (a jello-like substance which is usually used to grow bacteria) pieces of controlled sizes and volumes to which the dye Bromthymol Blue has been added. The blue color turns yellow in the presence of acid, so if the Agar piece is placed in an acid solution, the progress of the acid diffusing into the cell can be determined by a color change. By controlling the time duration of the acid bath for all Agar pieces, we have a basic method to compare the diffusion efficiency of shapes.

Developing a method to quantify the progress of the acid into the Agar is a key to collecting objective data. One possible method might be to measure the depth of the color change boundary with a ruler at every surface after the time lapse, compute the total volume and diffused volume and derive the volume change. Another possibility, using the concept that all cell models will have equal density, is to measure the mass of the Agar piece before the experiment, then cut away the colored portions after the experiment, re-mass the piece and find the difference. In either case, once the volume difference between the initial and final states is known, percentage changes can be compared for the various shapes. These two methods may produce different ranges of speed and accuracy in measurement.

Hypothesis: (Write your own hypothesis and be sure to include reasons for your prediction.)

Variables: (you list the independent, dependent and controlled variables. Also discuss your control. What is your control trial/group in this experiment?)

Materials: (modify this list to reflect what you really used)

• Agar blocks made with Bromthymol Blue to make model cells with the following dimensions (cm): 1 x 1 x 1; 2 x 2 x 2; 3 x 3 x 3.
• 300 ml 0.1M hydrochloric acid
• beakers or dishes of various sizes as needed to contain acid baths
• Electronic scale
• Ruler (mm scale)
• Scalpel
• Cutting plate
• Paper towels
• Wash bottle with DW
• Latex or vinyl gloves

Procedure: (This is a general guide. You should add detail and modifications as necessary. Tip: You will find that the cell models are fragile to some extent. Careful methods will be needed to move the cell models between acid baths and scales without damaging them.)

1. Cut your desired shapes from the agar block. (You decide what data to record and how to record it.)

1. Place each block in an appropriate beaker, cover completely with HCl solution and immediately record your starting time.

2. After (you decide on time lapse) minutes, remove blocks from acid, and rinse with DW.

3. Immediately measure the remaining undiffused volume (as indicated by unchanged agar color) by whatever method you have chosen and record. (You decide on an appropriate data table.)

(You decide on data processing and analysis methods. Be sure to measure/record/discuss errors and uncertainties at all appropriate points.)

WHAT ARE THE CONTROL GROUPS, INDEPENDENT, DEPENDENT VARIABLES, THE CONCLUSION, THE HYPOTHESIS??? AND ANYTHING YOU NEED FOR A LAB!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I DON’T GET IT!!! PLS PLS PLS
THXS.

Sublime fans…………………………………..?

I just got Sublime’s self-titled album on Vinyl and I’m listening to it right now.

Q: How jealous are you?
Q2: What are your feelings about Sublime & Rome?
Q3: Does Brad’s son play guitar / record music?

Peace and love.

What does it say on the back?

Generally, on the back of CD cases the only things that are there are a picture or some kind of back cover art and the track listing (maybe). On the back of vinyl’s cases, though, there’s quite bit more…especially on country music records. For example, this is what it says on the back of the Lemon Piper’s Green Tambourine album:

“And now, ladeeez and gentlemen, the Lemon Pipers will perform their big hit “Green Tambourine” for you by plucking their electric chicken, playing their stringless violin, shuffling their pack of cards, and blowing their minds. Step right up! Now if you’ll hold your absolutely deafening applause, (‘Thanks, Mom!’) they will be introduced to you one by one, as the saying goes. Are you READY?”…and it goes on from there.

So, my question is, which one is your favorite? Mine is from the back of a Waylon Jennings record…”Inside this cover is a singer who can relate every feeling love has cast — Spinning the tale and weaving a special magic to let you know he knows. His voice swells in complete loneliness, an almost impossible despair; Then it builds you up as his masterful control quivers with memories of a gentle love that was good. For those of us whose melodies and words remain inside only to be felt, he releases our need for expression. How is this possible? Because Waylon Jennings is…only the greatest.”

poem revision?

i was hoping y’all could give me a few tips on how to make this poem better;
***The soothing sound that comes from within in the depths of the soul Playing vinyl in the time of day, the premium technology that was offered. It held and still holds its class even when obsolete, there were so few made of the marvelous machine, many gathered to vast in the presence and to speak of the wondrous mechanism that brought into everyones lives*** for school i had to pick and object and relate it to someone. i chose a record player because the guy i wrote it about has many similarities as i tried to show in the poem but I’m quite terrible at writing poems. This guys is like a record player because he’s very in touch w/ music, it’ s a big part of him. He has many ideas that are way ahead of the technology of this time just like the record player was when it came out. If you heard him talk just once you wouldn’t ever want to leave, the things he says are incredibly beautiful, he has a way w/ words
there aren’t many people like him, he’s very classy and even though he may be like that he can still have a lot of fun… record players allow you to have fun. Record players may not be as big as a thing as they used to be but they still are very well known and enjoyed by people… i feel as time goes on people will eventually be able to grasp his ideas and surpass his intelligence but no one will ever be able to be like him and he’ll always hold a spot in time… like a record player

Flash button inside movie clip: go to frame label?

I have a flash document I’m using for a record catalog, with ordeing information etc.

There are two seperate sections for VINYL RELEASES and FANZINES. I’d like these to be in seperate movie clips, with release images used as buttons. The buttons will lead to a labeled frame inside the movie clip, containing a white space to cover the document, and more information on individual releases. I hope that was clear enough, Im having a little trouble explaining.

I have both movie clips, with buttons inside of them- (button script):

on(release){
_root.gotoAndStop(“yay01″);
}

These buttons are changing the original documents frame instead of the frame inside the movie clip. How do i place a button inside a movie, and navigate ALL WITHIN THE MOVIE CLIP?

Im sorry, I’m young, and I’m a newbie!!! Thank you for the help

How can I receive promo CDs?

As a hobby, I collect music from certain artists. I buy any album, single, EP, vinyl, etc.

I also collect promotional material. Unfortunately, to obtain these, I have to resort to eBay. Does anyone know a way I could receive promo CDs directly from labels (I’m really shooting for Warner Bros. Records) I hate having to buy these on eBay where they say “not to be sold”

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
