Mark Selby with Down In The Flood @ musig-im-stern, MURI, switzerland 8.3.09
“As a singer/songwriter, Mark Selby’s in the same league as Bruce Springsteen, with meaty words, a compelling voice, and tracks that have more groove than a vintage vinyl record.” –AMERICAN SONGWRITER “An electrifying performer.” –BLUES REVUE “Selby earned his moment in the spotlight with his excellent debut, More Storms Comin’…his exceptional sophomore CD, Dirt, indicates that album was no fluke. No need for bells and whistles here — the music does the talking.” –ROLLING STONE “Mark Selby makes some of the most soulful noise coming out of Nashville.” –THE TENNESSEAN “Simply put, 11 tracks of the …

Paul Anka sings “Tell Me That You Love Me”
If ever there was a big hit wasted on the B-side of a 45rpm record, it’s this one! Paul Anka’s “Tell Me That You Love Me” was hidden behind the (in my opinion) much weaker A-side “I Love You Baby”, thus received virtually no airplay on radio stations. A song never played on the radio had no chance to ever climb up the Billboard charts. “I Love You Baby” became a hit, while the wonderful song on side B never found an audience (unless you purchased the hit single and found out for yourself what a fantastic number was wasted on the B-side). It’s one of those moves that didn’t make much sense, and even the Wunderkind Anka himself had little power over what executives decided. Thankfully the song was recorded at all, since many potential hit songs ended on the cutting floor, never to be published. – Enjoy this forgotten gem by a major force in the music business, whose induction to the Rock Hall of Fame is long overdue. Paul Anka is the Susan Lucci of Rock & Roll. Get him into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame already!!! – This, like more than 23000 other original vintage vinyl record titles is available on the Internet at Thursday’s Golden Goodies, the vinyl lovers’ candy store!

45′s – Forget Me Not – Kalin Twins
The Kalin Twins (b. February 16, 1934, Port Jervis, New York) were a pop music recording duo, comrpised of twin brothers Hal and Herbie Kalin. The Kalin Twins remain the archetypal one-hit wonders. Their only Top 10 chart hit – “When” – may have cruelly prophesied the question as to further success. Originally discovered by Clint Ballard, Jr., the writer of many hit records such as “Good Timin’” for Jimmy Jones, and “I’m Alive” for The Hollies, the sibling duo had a couple of early recording flops. However, in 1958, after searching through piles of writers’ demo tapes, their management discovered the song called “When”, written by Paul Evans and Jack Reardon. It topped the UK Singles Chart, got to Number 5 in their US homeland, and sold over two million copies in the process. The track remained in the UK listings for eighteen weeks, five of which were at Number One. They had no further UK chart entries. Harold (Hal) and Herbert (Herbie) were the first set of twins to reach number one in the UK as a duo, followed years later by The Proclaimers. They were supported by Cliff Richard on their only UK tour. Their second single, “Forget Me Not,” reached Number 12 in the US Billboard chart later in 1958. After two further low-ranking entries in 1959, they never reached the charts again.

45′s – The Hare On My Chinny Chin Chin – Sam The Sham & The Phar
In May, 1963, Vincent Lopez was playing for Andy and The Nightriders in Louisiana. When their organist quit, Sam joined. Andy and The Nightriders was Andy Anderson, David A. Martin, Vincent Lopez and Sam. The Nightriders became house band at The Congo Club. It was here Sam became the The Sham in a dual reference to the fact that the bands name was Andy and The Nightriders and Andy Anderson was leader but everyone came to hear Sam sing and the fact that Sam could only play chords. Sham or Cham is also an obsolete term for Khan. In June 1963, The Nightriders headed for Memphis, Tennessee and became house band at The Diplomat. In late summer 1963, Andy Anderson and Vincent Lopez left to return to Texas. Sam and David A. Martin replaced them with Jerry Patterson and Ray Stinnett and changed the name to Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs. Shortly thereafter, the band added saxophonist Butch Gibson. After paying to record and press records to sell at gigs, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs wound up with the Pen label in Memphis. There, they recorded their first and biggest hit, “Wooly Bully”, selling 3 million copies and reaching No. 2 on the Billboard charts on June 5, 1965 at a time when American pop music charts were dominated by the British Invasion. The Pharaohs’ next releases – “Ju Ju Hand” and “Ring Dang Doo”- were minor successes. In late 1965, 11 months after “Wooly Bully”, David A. Martin, Jerry Patterson, Ray Stinnett, and Butch Gibson left over a financial dispute. Sam’s …
