The New York collective are to kick off at London’s Brixton Academy on April 23, around the same time as the arrival of their third album. LCD Soundsystems have James Murphy at vocals & instruments. When performing live, Murphy is accompanied by the following band members: Al Doyle at guitar & percussion (also of Hot Chip), J.D. Mark at guitar, Phil Skarich at bass, Nancy Whang at keyboards & synthesizer (also of The Juan Maclean), Pat Mahoney & drums. In January of 2010 it was announced that LCD Soundsystem would peform on the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and shortley after begin a tour of Europe.Murphy began recording in the summer of 2009 in Los Angeles. Possible song titles mentioned include “Why Do You Hate Music?” and “Love in LA”. For the 2009 Record Store Day the band released a cover of Suicide member Alan Vega’s song “Bye Bye Bayou”.On 18 November 2008 Al Doyle seemed to suggest in an interview with 6 Music that the band would soon be discontinued. However the following day both Doyle and James Murphy quashed this rumour, with Murphy indicating a new LCD Soundsystem album was on the way.Third album (2009–Till now)
After finishing touring for Sound of Silver the band recorded and released a song entitled “Big Ideas” on the soundtrack of the film 21. This song was ranked number 63 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.Time magazine named “All My Friends” one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at #4. Writer Josh Tyrangiel praised the “magic” in the song, saying that the song’s “straightforward repetition of the same guitar, keyboard and bass lines, combined with lyrics about life without regret, and life with all kinds of regrets pays off with a punch about what we lose as we get older.” The album was also nominated for the 2007 Shortlist Prize, where it lost out to The Reminder by Feist. Also in December 2007 the band received a nomination for the Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album. The album was also named the best album of 2007 by publications such as The Guardian, Uncut and Drowned in Sound.LCD Soundsystem’s subsequent single “All My Friends” included a cover of the song by both Franz Ferdinand and former Velvet Underground member John Cale. The digital download “All My Friends” EP also includes a cover of the early Joy Division song “No Love Lost”. In September 2007 the “A Bunch of Stuff” EP was released and the band went on tour with Arcade Fire. Late in 2007 the band released “Someone Great” as the third single off of Sound of Silver and re-released 45:33 on CD and vinyl through DFA Records. In December 2007 there was a release of a 12-inch record containing b-sides from European singles for the North American market entitled “Confuse the Marketplace”.LCD Soundsystem’s second album, Sound of Silver, was released on March 12, 2007, to near universal critical acclaim. Praise included Mixmag awarding it the title Album of the Month, a 9.2 score from Pitchfork Media and a 5-star review from The Guardian. The album release was preceded by the single “North American Scum”.In October, 2006 James Murphy released a track entitled “45:33″ as part of a promotion with Nike for download from iTunes. The track is, strangely, 45 minutes and 58 seconds long, and was claimed to “reward and push at good intervals of a run”. However it was later revealed that this was not the case, but that Murphy merely wanted the opportunity to create a long piece of music, akin to E2-E4 by Manuel Göttsching.45:33 and Sound of Silver (2006–2008)
On December 8, 2005 the group received nominations for two Grammy awards in the Electronica category for their self-titled album and in the Dance category for “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”. This album was also chosen as one of Amazon.com’s Top 100 Editor’s Picks of 2005.In June 2005, the band covered a Siouxsie & the Banshees song, “Slowdive” for the B-side of “Disco Infiltrator”.LCD Soundsystems’s song “Get Innocuous” is featured on Grand Theft Auto IV and can be heard on the games in game radio station Radio BrokerLCD Soundsystem released a double disc set simply titled LCD Soundsystem in February 2005 to critical acclaim. The first disc contains the album and the second contains re-releases of previous singles. The opening track “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” quickly gained popularity and entered the UK Top 40 in March 2005 and was later featured on several video game soundtracks like SSX on Tour, Forza Motorsport 2, Burnout Revenge, and FIFA 06. The band toured with M.I.A..LCD Soundsystem gained attention with its first single, “Losing My Edge”. Described as “an eight-minute, laugh-out-loud funny dissection of cool over a dirty electronic beat” the single became an underground dance favourite. This was followed by other well received singles “Give It Up” and “Yeah”.
Early singles and self-titled album (2002–2005)
LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of producer James Murphy, co-founder of dance-punk label DFA Records. The music of LCD Soundsystem is a mix of dance music and punk, along with elements of disco and other styles. LCD Soundsystem is particularly popular in Britain, with two albums reaching the top 40 of the UK Albums Chart.

Guns N Roses Reunion……WTF!!!!!?

On my local Radio station 107.5 Frank FM, the DJ said that the original members of GNR, Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagen, Izzy Stradlin, and Steven Adler are all talking about a GNR Summer 09 tour. I dont know about u, but, um, if this is true, and I really hope it is, um, HOLY F**KIN SH!T, GNR together again. I am such a huge fan of the original GNR, I still have all of their records on Vinyl and CD that I got in like 91, i even got Live Like a Suicide off of Ebay. I know it sounds cliche, but I would do literally anything to get tickets for that, I mean anything, i saw them, in like 91, and for all of the original members to be together. Slash ripping the SH!T out of the Les paul on Welcome to the Jungle, Axl on stage singing and doing his serpentine dance, Adler beating the hell outta the drums, Izzy on guitar and Duff on bass. My god, I dont know if its true or not, but, omg, if it is, It would be the most miraculous thing like, ever.

ECM Records -Title of song on “Solstice”, Ralph Towner (1975)?

Track 6 is labeled as “Piscean Dreams” on my CD, but Amazon.com lists the title as “Piscean Dance”.
What is the correct title of that song when it was released (on vinyl)?

Avoid a Disaster On The Decks With Quality DJ Equipment

The lights are low, the crowd is expectant, air horns are blasting. Hundreds of sweaty people are shoulder to shoulder blowing whistles and stomping feet. The strobe lights start pulsating and BANG! Power is down – and the crowd start heckling.

That is every DJ’s nightmare, failing equipment. When you are well known or making a name for yourself you cannot afford to have such mess ups and sometimes even quality equipment can’t get you out of it. And in my time interviewing DJs from across the world, I have heard of a few tales of the ultimate terror. I have also witnessed a few when it comes to reviewing club night sand gigs. I can assure you that the audience is rarely sympathetic to the plight of the cursed DJ.

One such tale was a university gig, a DJ who was in the charts at the time came on to finish the night off, which he certainly did. The trouble with a headlining act is that often there are many hours of drinking that can take place before a foot manages to even step upon a stage or in a DJ booth. I know a lot of vinyl spinners who opt to drive to prevent the evil allure of beer taking over their senses, but not this guy. All was going well and then he tried to a super slick move whilst attempting a bit of a rewind, stumbled and sent the decks flying. Broken turntables, broken records and a badly bruised ego ensued!

Being the first on doesn’t guarantee a simple start either. With so many buttons, switches, amps, lights and leads if the system doesn’t start up, it can take a crack team of audio detectives to find out what is defective. A cry of ‘the show must go on!’ is all well and good, but sometimes a CD player and Kylies latest album has to suffice whilst the crowds bay for their entertainment. It’s not that uncommon for things like that go wrong mid-set. One guy I knew was busy having a boogie to a good tune he was spinning when his dancing feet whipped a lead from a jack and like a hells angel gatecrashing a frat party, the whole lot went dead. He did say that a blip like that can ruin an entire night.

Whipping the crowd into a dancing frenzy is a harder job than many non DJ types realise. Us awkward lot have to be coaxed into dancing, built up to a heaving mass of excitement that is aimed to guarantee wolf whistles and whoops when the DJ drops the beat of the finest tune that has graced a living things ears. If that process is interfered with, and a five minute silence is all the punters have to hang on to, that vibe can be lost and is hard to claw back. Then there is the reputation to think of. Some stories can be a memorable blip that talent can get around; others are statements of incompetence that the paying public will not forgive.

Technical failures can exacerbate silly mistakes, but at least technical failures can be avoided by investing in equipment that has less chance of letting you down. Good quality buys are a must, and often taking your own equipment to a club or party will minimise controllable difficulties. I have heard stories from many DJs where bad sets have been the result of broken headphones; worn out needles, sub standard monitors and generally old equipment with no spares should something go fatally wrong. Invest in the best and take it with you if you want to spin with success.

Lady GaGa Tickets – a New Lady in Town

Gaining as much notoriety for her electro-pop appearance as for her comparisons to the newly remade Christina Aguilera, the Manhattan native Lady GaGa doesn’t care what has jet set her career to mainstream success, she’s just grateful for it. After making waves with the underground scene in New York, performing at clubs like The Bitter End in Greenwich Village, “GaGa,” as her friends have deemed her, has learned to take everything in stride. “Most artists don’t go on arena tours before their albums drops,” Lady GaGa talks to Pollstar about her new tour with New Kids on the Block. “But I don’t think anybody can deny my abilities as a performer. That’s the bottom line.” And so, out pops Lady GaGa, who will undeniably only become a more generous star in the future defined by her neutrality and more, now is the time to get your own Lady GaGa tickets, where the best place to find her eccentric style is always http://www.stubhub.com/lady-gaga-tickets.

Just 22 years old, the futuristic female wasn’t caught off guard when Aguilera, who appeared at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards with a similar frock to GaGa, dared to question GaGa’s sexuality. “I talk about Grace Jones and David Bowie all the time,” Lady GaGa said to The London Free Press. “And I love androgynous fashion, so she’s just picking up on the Andy Warhol in me.” The pop artist earned her stage name (she was born Stefani Germanotta) after the 1984 Queen hit “Radio Ga Ga,” and her love for theatrics. The road to The Fame, her debut album, was messy.

”Hustling,” as she deems it to Pollstar, from the time she was a teen in New York City’s open mic nights, the young starlet chose to perform her own background material rather than carry around the typical boom-box like other pop acts. “I did a couple of different things,” she told Pollstar. “First I started at the piano – because I play piano – and then I had a band that I put together in college that last about a year.” Later she added beats she created from her Macbook Pro, and eventually threw her beats onto a vinyl made at a local store.

It wasn’t long before GaGa started making some headlines of her own, but at first it was more for her mad poetic skills than her voice. Signing to Interscope Records as a lyricist, she has penned singles for pop acts including the Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears and was eventually confident enough to start working on her own material. The Fame cites her influences David Bowie and Queen but also delves into the pop atmosphere that she first worked with. “I wanted to write a hit record,” GaGa says to The Independent. “Something that was shameless and totally, 100 per cent bubblegum pop, but still avant-garde and Pop Art in that Andy Warhol way that I really strive to be. I want to make pop music that’s commercial, but is considered fine art.” Well, to say the least GaGa has hit her mark with pop singles “Poker Face” and “Just Dance,” electro-pop Billboard charting singles that incorporate both the Spears-type of pop GaGa pens along with a quirky Warhol feminism.

Edwin McCain vs. Ol’ Blue Eyes?

I’m torn between two first dance songs! The two finalists are McCain’s “Could Not Ask for More” and Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night.” I love both songs. Even though I did grow up in the 90′s (which Edwin was great 90′s music), I’m a big Sinatra fan and have like 20 vinyl records of his.

Edwin’s song is more of a general love song, but Frank’s is more of telling a story–a story that didn’t necessarily happen for us! It’s about two lonely people meeting in the night, falling in love from that point on and being together from that night on. So even though I personally like that song better, it’s a narrative that pertains nothing to our actual life. Even though it would be unlikely that another mid-twenties couple would pick Sinatra. I like to be original!

What song would you pick or do you like better?
