Are vinyls any good to you?

I’m thinking of buying me a record player but I’m still keeping my cd player. I want to buy some vinyls of older bands. Are they any good to you. BTW: I was never really a fan of the “clean”, high definition sounding music. It sounds too fake to me.
Are they cheaper than cds?

Constant static from Kenwood turntable?

Hello,
I just bought an early-90′s Kenwood belt-driven turntable, and it is in really good shape and seems solid, but I am getting constant static when I try to play a record. I have adjusted the tone-arm weight and anti-skating wheel, cleaned the stylus, neutralized the static from the record and table itself, and done every trouble-shooting procedure I know, but no change. It is almost like the stylus is hitting the record at the wrong angle because it will skip grooves and does play the music, but through THICK static, more than just regular static build-up on the vinyl itself.
Could a dull stylus be causing this? Any suggestions?

record player problem?

hi i have an old Aiwa turntable and amp that i have been given. i went to play a record and have noticed a problem with it. The sound gets very distorted when playing the record. It seems like it distorts every time it spins – so ill be listening to a song and every 3 seconds (estimate) it is really distorted.

I have tried different records, the needle is fine and its not the amp.

What could it be? I noticed a lot of black syrup-like substance on the inside of the device, and cleaned it up. Also a substance that looked like ear wax.

any help would be gratefully appreciated as i love listening to vinyls.

Vinyls (LP’s) Still Pop/Crackle Consitantly After Deep Cleanings?

I have been cleaning my Vinyls with the spinclean system (from garage-a-records.com). I also have been cleaning them off with a carbon fibre brush before and after each cleaning. I also have a brand new cartridge and stylus (a Grado Prestige Green Series) that is aligned. But I am having a problem with still having constant crackles (Even On A Brand New LP that was sealed / pressed in 2006). If I take a flash light, I can even still see dust on the vinyl even with all these cleaning actions…
I have been told that cleaning new vinyl is a good thing in that it gets rid of the left over stuff that is left on the vinyl after the manafacturing stage.

I am thinking maybe it is an electrical issue… my receiver does enot have a grounding hookup for the phono input (although it does have a phono input) so I have been grounding the ground wire from the turntable to the chasis of the receiver…

BLACK MOLD…I found some what should I do…is it dangerous?

I collect vinyl records and recently got a record with, what looks like black mold on it. I read somewhere that black mold could potentially kill you. Is this true? If so or not so, how should I clean the stuff up?

Are you an Audiophile or not?

Ok, someone threw the gauntlet down, and I am taking it up!

Which are you, an “audiophile” or do you like digital better?

I notice that Yahoo Answers wants to put this post in the section about sexual identity, so please read the below article to understand what an audiophile is.:o

Please read the article at the link below before answering:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/digital-versus-analog.htm

I am an audiophile, and PROUD of it! I have clean, scratch-free vinyl records that were of high quality when recorded, and they sound wonderful on my quality analogue system! You get a FULL RANGE of sound! They sound good even from the cassette tapes I record from the vinyl and play on my quality analogue system. I do this so I can keep my records in perfect shape, less chance of them getting scratched and worn down from multiple use. When the cassette wears out -if ever- I can remake a copy.

Some say digital CD’s last longer? BAH! They can scratch, and crack also! And besides, they haven’t been around as long as my records (some are 30 years old and still in excellent shape). How long have you had your CD’s, so how do you KNOW they will hold up well over time?

So, which are you, an Audiophile, or a Digital lover?

Help me out here fellow Audiophiles!;)…..OK, NO crude jokes please!

What other chemical evaporates as quicky as isopropyl or rubbing alchohol?

In the 1980s Radio Shack distributed a record cleaning protectant that they no longer make. When sprayed on the surface of the vinyl, the fluid QUICKLY evaporates right before your eyes. However, although no ingredients are listed the label says “non flammable and non toxic” and has a kind of “plastic” smell that seems to have a residue feeling on the hands after use – so that rules out Isopropyl Alcohol – but what other clear liquid dissolves or evaporates on contact?

Do music really sound better on vinyl or is it something else??.?

Maybe the music doesn’t sound better but its the whole lifestyle of being a vinyl owner. You know i mean?? The trips to the record store and finding that album you’ve have been looking for forever. Putting the record carefully on the turntable and cleaning it. The smell of the old cover. That warm sensation of your favorite songs. Tell me what you think

Man I need to be a writer for a music magazine

How can I clean up some really noisy audio from an old record?

I have two records of my grandfather playing the saxophone, accompanied by a piano. They are extremely old records and the audio is difficult to enjoy over all the pops and cracks. There are parts of the recordings where he speaks (i.e., to announce the name of the next song), and having not ever known my grandfather, it’s been a project of mine to record these vinyl albums to mp3s, and then burn to CD for my family members.

After getting the right adapter off of eBay, I finally was able to record the audio onto the computer and make different tracks for each song.

However, I need to know how to clean up the audio. I downloaded a program called Audacity, and another called WavePad – and on both programs, the “noise reduction” function made the songs sound really echo-y and electronic-sounding. All I want is to be able to remove the pops and cracks!

Is there a better program out there for this? Is there a special way to clean the records so these pops and cracks aren’t as noticeable? Any help would be appreciated!
