Should I keep buying CD’s?

I bought hundreds of vinyl records during the 70′s and early 80′s. When they were on their way out and CD’s were on their way in, I kept buying LP’s as long as they were available, thinking that I had so many it would be a shame to give up on them. Of course I hardly listen to them now because they are unwieldy and inconvenient.

Now it seems that MP3 and all kinds of digital media are pushing CD’s out of the market. I have hundreds of THEM now and hate to give up on them. Is their demise inevitable? Am I being foolish to continue buying them?

What is the “file format” for a standard audio CD?

I’m converting a bunch of old vinyl records to CD (using a stereo system component CD burner). It’d be great to archive them on computer (much less space), but what file format would I save them as so that I could then, in the future, re-copy them to a CD that my car player could play?
For example, can an old car CD player recognize .mp3? .wav? etc.?
Sadly, the expense of an IPod is far in the future. The “Audio CD” works fine from the component burner to the other CD players I have. More specifically, I also have a wall full of audio CD’s I’d like to archive on computer. But when I save them on the computer, I have to save them as a specific file format. Then, if if want to re-burn a mix CD to play in the car, what file format should I burn them as?
Is there specific software required to burn an Audio CD?

Question about Turntables?

I saw this ad in the paper for a turntable thats $99. It said LP-to-Digital turntable. What does that mean. Will i be able to scratch and mix like a dj. Will i have to have vinyl records? I dont have any of those. Do they sell turntables that you dont need vinyl records for? Like, what i imagined was that i could have the turntable connected into the computer, load an mp3 file from my computer into the turntable, and then get started scratching and mixing. Do they sell any turntables like those?

Thanks!
heres the one i saw

Can iTunes work on any MP3 player?

I’m trying to get my dad two presents for Christmas: one is a turntable with USB that’ll rip the songs from the vinyl and onto a hard drive and the other’s a MP3. I am concerned about the iTunes superseding the turnable’s programming and convert the songs into its format, thus making them useless for play except for iPods. I want to know if iTunes can play on other players or if I have to do some reprogramming to make sure my dad’s records will make the transfer.

Thanks for helping in advance, guys.

Sony Vaio VGNA115B Sonicstage 4.3 ATRAC3plus Audio File Bug Error BEWARE!?

Ive got a Sony VGNA115B laptop with music management system SonicStage 4.3. I transferred my entire record library onto the system using Sonys Sonic Stage Mastering Stuidio. This took months, plus editing etc. After completing the transfers I spent a couple of years enjoying using the library and sending CDR copies to friends. However one day while i was burning a CDR an error message appeared on SonicStage warning “Hard Drive Full”. Since that day all my audio files in ATRAC3plus format (Sonys own software) will not play. My SonicStage library will play all .Wav and .Mp3 audio files but will not even recognise any of the hundreds of .ATRAC3plus format files i transferred onto the system from vinyl records. I am a member of Sonys own VAIO owners club and they have attemped to assist with the problem but it seems the laptop will have to go back to them for further investigation. The files will not even transfer back to MP3.My question is has anybody had similar problems with SonicStage?

Is technology advancing or merely improving?

Modern day technology hasn’t really seen anything new. Something amazing like a new invention. For example, the light bulb was invented, then improved on with florescence, then LEDs. The vinyl record was invented, the improved upon by the cassette tape, the CD, then the Mp3.

We really have not seen any new grand invention that’s practical like Fusion energy, cars that run on water, hypersonic passenger jets, buildings that can stand several miles high.

For cryinoutloud, we are still puddle jumping in low earth orbit in space shuttles that have been blowing up and reused since the disco era.

Where are the technological ADVANCEMENTS that will advance humanity into a new technological era?

How do I eliminate the crappy sound from vinyal-mp3 transfers?

Hi, I used a record player to transfer files to mp3 using the line-in jack on my laptop, using the windows audio recorder thingy, but the mp3′s sound really bad, (sorry, they are wma) – pops, clicks, noise in the background (hissing). Part of it must have been the vinyls – they are like 70 years old (1930′s). After i got them on my PC, I used Adobe Audition 3.0 to try to remove some of that crap, but ended up making it sound the same, and in some cases worse. My question is, are there any good applications to rip from vinyal records to PC? thanks!
