Unwrapped: Perfect Christmas Presents for Pop Princesses
Let’s face it; we all have at least on pop princess in our circle of friends and probably several in our families. Which means that they are more than likely expecting to be on our Christmas presents list, and they will be anticipating a fair bit of pampering? The pop princess is extremely easy to identify. The tell tale signs lie in her knowledge of the finer personal details of her diva of choice and the way she seems to know all her song lyrics backwards. But most of all, the dead giveaway is how this feisty wannabe portrays herself visually.
It’s all about image, those immaculately manicured nails, the perfect lip gloss, the ever changing hair colours and styles, the designer labels that are a must have. They are of paramount importance to the pop princess. Show me a girl who has never posed before her bedroom mirror, hairbrush poised to the lips as she struts her stuff and does her best to lip sync. In her own eyes she is Kylie, J-Lo, Beyonce and Britney all rolled into one. Of course, she is frequently located in the shower, performing backing vocals as they’ve never been sung before, enhanced by watery acoustics.
What she wants, what she really really wants is fame and fortune, recognition and celebrity. She’s heading for the top and expects success to fall in her lap any day now. But she knows she has to do it just right, and that means reinventing herself, over and over until she has achieved the ultimate image. To make her sparkle brighter than the Christmas tree lights, a Deluxe Glamour Makeover is pure indulgence, with the beauty works. She can look in the mirror and watch herself be transformed from a duckling to a swan, by a top hairstylist, makeup artist and photographer. She’ll even be given a CD of those photos to make all her friends green with envy, or even add to her promotional portfolio. And she can choose a lucky friend to accompany her to the half day pampering session, just to rub it in.
If you think this is not enough for the girl who wants everything and isn’t afraid to ask, you could send her off on a full day’s Star Style Transformation, offering not just a makeover but a total reinvention. She’s been waiting for this champagne reception all her life, and knows that every girl with her talent simply has to have a personal shopper to help her create that image that cannot fail to turn heads. And if she’s not yet decided whether her signature colour should be magenta or violet, there’s even a consultation with a colour coordinator who will advise her on what goes well with her skin tone, eye colour and possibly her pet pooch.
With the reinvention process neatly dealt with, she may feel in need of a little, or preferably considerably more than a little, pampering. Champneys Health Spa will massage her precious little toes and cover her with oils. A facial and body massage will help her relax after all that fantasising about stardom has left her feeling exhausted and drained, and after a lavish lunch she can work on improving her fabulous figure with a workout. Maybe the paparazzi are getting too demanding, in which case what better place to get away from it all and unwind than with a floatation session. There’ll be no cameras catching her unawares here.
The pop princess is yet to be discovered and may be wondering when she will ever be immortalised on vinyl, or whatever CDs are made of. Her dreams will come true when she finds herself in front of the microphone in an actual recording studio with assistance from a real live record producer and sound engineer, as she sings to her favourite backing track. Who knows, they may even offer her the multi million pound contracts she knows will eventually be hers. Of course she will want to be immortalised with her name in gold letters on a Hollywood Hall of Fame Star. And when all those phone calls start to come in from the rich and famous inviting her to a weekend in the South of France, or for just ordering pizza on her night off from her demanding A-list lifestyle, an electric pink Princess Telephone will complete her new persona perfectly.
Until she’s reached the heady heights of super stardom the pop princess need not rely solely on her imagination. She can see her name emblazoned on a rock guitar or across a glittering stage every day of the year with a Music Legend Calendar. Indulge her in her pop fantasy. One day, when she’s rubbing shoulders with the legends themselves, she will remember you and the Christmas presents that shone brighter than all the rest. She’s going to make it, definitely. Maybe.

All About Binders
Binders are files or folder-like structures that hold together any number of papers or documents together. It is the best way to organize documents belonging to a certain topic categorically into different sections and form booklets out of them. These booklets may or may not be adhered together permanently. It wholly depends on the type of binding you choose to perform on these documents. It is essential to keep records of things pertaining important information on the transaction of valuable assets especially at home and office. These could be in the form of bills or receipts or documents of other financial records. They are normally kept together in a binder by punching holes in them and inserting them onto circular or D-shaped rings that are fixed to the binder.
Apart from professional documents and financial documents, schoolwork papers, project reports, personal papers, photo albums, recipes, sports cards collection, needlecraft embroidery collections, yours and your family medical records, pet records and CD/DVD collections can all be organized using these binders. Amongst the permanent methods of binding are thermal binding and tape binding while the temporary form involves, ring binders, comb binders, wire binders, plastic binders and so on. The temporary form of binding involves punched pieces of paper held together by means of clamps running through the holes in the paper. The pitch of binding refers to the number of holes used for binding per inch. Where the wire binding uses a pitch of 3:1 and 2:1, the coil binding has a pitch of 4:1.
In thermal binding hot glue is used to fasten the document to a cover and it produces a library book like appearance. Tape binding uses hot glue adhered to a tape-like long strip that subsequently wraps around the spine of the document. A binding machine is used for this purpose. Binding machines are also available that electronically punch equidistant holes on well aligned bunch of documents. These are later bound together using plastic combs or wire, metal or plastic rings passing through these holes. These are reversible kind of binding techniques which can be manipulated any time you need. These methods of binding provide more versatility since there are a lot of options available when it comes to choosing the binding elements like combs and wires.
Normally binders are available in standard sizes and shapes. However, you have an option of customizing your binding elements especially when you are using them for professional use. You could either imprint the company name or the company logo, specific colors or specific pictures onto the binders or form a unique line of binders for your brand. Sometimes the covers of the binders are not just made up of the conventional hardback book styles but may also constitute of vinyl covers which are provided with pockets that serve the purpose of holding loose papers, documents or business cards in the binders. We also have zipper binders that hold the papers together very well and keep them from falling out.

Haunted by old records?
Haunted by old records?
Please help me explain what’s happening! I’m 13 and recently my grandfather moved into a nursing home, so we had to clean out his house, my uncle, who lives in Australia, had left a whole lot of his stuff behind, including school photos, stone wizards/dragons, and two stereos, one of which plays vinyl, and his vinyl collection. I started listening to his vinyl and looking at the discs and all the things written on them, and all of his old CD’s as well, and some was bands I know, and some other stuff I’ve started to like. But now when I go to bed at night I’m haunted by the sound of some of the records, and the thought of the stuff of his I brought to my house, and all the photos I’ve seen of my parents, uncles etc. when they were young, is really scary. What’s happening? Also, before all this happened, I used to think of the Metallica’s song “Sanitarium” along side images I’ve seen of Chernobyl town and the victims of the disaster and feel really scared. This still happens. Please help! I stay up too late because I’m afraid to go to bed and think of this stuff that shouldn’t be scary but is! Please help me!
Also, when mum through out an old picture of her with someone her friend set her up with I felt sad, but I don’t know why because it’s not my memory, but I still felt really sad that she discarded a memory of her youth.
I also deeply wish that I had lived in the 80s. That’s around my parents time. In case that helps.

Summer Family Reunion Scrapbook
Creating a scrapbook will generate even more interest from your loved ones in those pictures taken at a reunion. It can be a shared project where everyone compiles their photos in one “all dressed up” photo album. But this isn’t the old dime-store album of plain, clear vinyl pockets in a grid where you insert your 4X6′s. If you’re the “lucky” one who gets to amass this family treasure I can help you get started.
Here’s How “Scrappers” Do It
During the summer family picnic, or shortly thereafter, ask grandma or grandpa to write a handwritten reflection of the day’s events. If they can jot down things family members mention that are going on in their lives at the time it adds a nice, newsy touch. Keep a copy of the invitation to the reunion showing where it took place.
Keep artwork the kids created. Be sure to include a group photo since it shows the size of the family. To add more journaling you can record some fun facts to your scrapbook memories. Some ideas: What games and sports were played. Who traveled the furthest. Who makes the most popular dessert. Who grew the most since last year (taller that is!). Who’s the “sore loser” at card games. Who’s the biggest “ham”. Who sneaked in a nap. Are we having fun yet??
The photo collection you pick from could be sent to you or emailed as files for you to print yourself. The advantage here would be your ability to print them at a size best suited for your “creative genius”. Often a somewhat small size works for a number of the photos as there may be a lot of them. It depends on whether or not you receive vast numbers of pictures. The group photo should be at least 8 x10″ in size.
There is plenty of space for it as long as you get a 12 x 12″ scrapbook. You could get a smaller size book but the large size lets you place numerous photos on a page with enough room for photo captions. To arrange photos on a page you can place them at various angles and overlap them a little. This adds a casual feel, lets you pack more onto a page and avoids the monotony of a traditional album.
Don’t be afraid to crop some of the photos with only 1 or 2 people in them. At an event like this many of the photos will have similar backgrounds, and cropping captures what is important. Cut around the people with precision. Then you can place the cropped shape on a pretty or bright background. Little secret here….if that fiance keeps showing up in photos you can crop said newcomer and put in the scrapbook. Removal is easy if they don’t become a husband or wife after all. Gosh…had to say it though.
If your family is very large commit a page to each individual family to make it clear which kids are offspring of who! It may seem obvious now, but wait until children change and the years pass. Any members of your clan who didn’t make the reunion can send a current photo to contribute.
Also, write the ages of all the children so you can get that perspective of how they change over the years. The backs of photos are not a good place since they will be glued down. Make a pocket and place the “Lil’ Ones Facts” in it or enter as “Emily at 4.” by their pictures.
A color theme for this scrapbook would be the bright, cheerful hues of summer. I would not choose pastels as they denote newborn babies instead of the natural brights of fruits and vegetables, pools and green lawns.
Patterns on papers you incorporate could be red-check tablecloth or linen textured. Embellishments and stamping you add can run the gamut from grass and trees to apples and watermelon to baseball, volleyball or beach toys. Handwritten labeling may be appropriate for much of it to keep it informal. The title of the scrapbook should be in die-cut, stenciled or stick on lettering.

Does this doll look haunted to you?
http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=1180247&image=386171623&images=386171623,386171656,386171676,386171700,386171727,386171768,386171816,386171835&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0
I bought it from ebay and it was labeled as a haunted doll. This is the listing:
Welcome to my auction listing for the adoption of five year old Mary. This doll was owned and cherished by a little five year old girl named Mary in the 1960s. She reminds me of little Lorelei that was adopted out several months ago to a wonderful loving family.
Mary loved this doll very much. She took her everywhere she went and was her best pal. Mary passed from bacterial meningitis.
A older step brother of Mary’s kept the spirit doll Mary for years. He attended our psychic metaphysical workshop a few months ago and told us all about his step sister Mary and her doll that she attached to after passing. He mentioned that she would send colorful butterflies as a sign to let hm know she was near. He gave us Mary doll to find a good home for her. We all agree that souls can haunt and attach to inanimate objects such as dolls to communicate their spiritual messages and needs through the veil.
Mary is lively and active. She can be obstinate in trying to get attention. She has a habit of tapping on windows and walls if you’re too busy to spend time with her. She enjoys being read to and she comments in real short phrases during EVP(electronic voice phenomenon) recording sessions or through telepathy about the story. She loves Dr. Seuss books. “Yurtle The Turtle” is one of her favorites. When you talk to Mary her eyes has this amazing spirit energy that emanates right through! She can drain batteries quickly and has a way of stopping and restarting clocks and watches. You may need to keep extra batteries on hand. It’s not unusual for her to turn a light switch off and on. We have been been in a lighted room and all of a sudden the room is dark. She gets a kick out of that. She can be affectionate too. We have had spirit hugs from her. It feels like a “web” engulfing around your body. When she draws near, you may get static in your hair from her energy. The EMF(electro-magnetic force) sensor readings can be moderately high when she manifests and travels in a room as a pinkish speeding orb in flight.
Mary would be happiest with a family that can give her a lot of attention and give her the best seat in the house. Mary can be ornery and will tease you if she doesn’t get her way. Mary does enjoy interacting with other spirit children and pets.
Mary has these unusual spirit eyes. It’s as if there is a light within them. When viewing the first photo enlarged the left eye appears to have a “human eye” peering through. There is some subtle kinetic movement where she animates her sleep eyes to half close then open them wider. We have observed this manifestation when her doll host is sitting in a chair. She loves to be held and carried around. Her whole face brightens up!
This 19 inch doll is a vintage 1964 Vogue doll. It is stamped Vogue Co. 1964 on the back of her neck. The head, legs, and arms are vinyl. The body is stuffed with a non working crier. Yet, one night her crier mysteriously worked. She has a darling face with unique spirit eyes that vary in shade from blue to green depending on her mood and the lighting in the room. One eye appears bigger than the other. Gives her that haunting “off” look that can is such a signature with haunted spirited dolls. She has been cleaned up but there is some subtle marks and variations on the body due to aging. Mary is in dire need of a new dress or outfit. Her vintage nightgown is too long and worn and she has no shoes. Hopefully her new adoptee family will spoil her with nice clothes, shoes, books, toys, kisses, and hugs ![]()
I must state by law that any item considered paranormal in nature is for “entertainment.” I cannot guarantee or be responsible how Mary will manifest in her new home. Treat Mary as member of the family and not a ghost.
Thank you for visiting Mary!

5 Tips On Selecting A Swimming Pool Contractor
TIP # 1: Seek out at least 3 bids from swimming pool contractors.
Swimming pool construction is handled by specialized swimming pool contractors who are experienced in ground conditions and climate of the region. Make sure that your contractor has experience building swimming pools especially the type of swimming pool that you are interested in installing. When you get your bids, look carefully at each swimming pool estimate to assure that you accurately compare one estimate with the next. It is very easy to miss details when comparing estimates. You may even want to create a swimming pool spreadsheet to compare one pool estimate to other pool estimates. Pay special attention to the types of materials that the contractor will use to construct the pool; project extras such as water to fill the pool, special features, energy efficient pumps, going green, salt systems, patio/decking; warranties on the swimming pool and equipment; project timelines and the types of pool equipment that the pool contractor will use such as pool filter, the pool pump, number of skimmers, returns, turnover rates, number of lights, steps, swimming pool vacuums, etc. Many companies will entice a buyer with low prices and then increase the price dramatically with extras that may be included in another pool company’s base pricing- make sure you compare the bids equally across the board. Try to use a company that sells the pool as a whole package to get better pricing or has an all-inclusive policy.
TIP # 2: Get at least 3 references to help you accurately assess the pool builder’s workmanship and customer service.
Ask the references about how and why they picked this contractor and about their experience work with the contractor. Find out if any issues came up during the project and how they handled the issues. Ask if they would have done anything differently in hindsight. If you cannot see the finished swimming pool project first hand, ask the pool contractor for pictures. The nature of references is that almost every reference will be positive. Do not depend on references to be a critical analysis of the pool contractor. The reference should give you an idea of how the contractor works on the project and how specific projects and issues were handled. Also, ask for trade references to show relationships within the pool industry, ask for architects, engineers and project managers that have real working relationships with the pool company to show the strength of the pool company’s business.
TIP # 3: Plan your payment schedule and follow schedule.
Most projects involve subcontractors, employees, equipment suppliers and others that are paid as a project proceeds or as needs arise. A delay in payment may slow down or even stop aspects of your project mid-stream. A slowed or stalled swimming pool project almost always increases the overall cost of the pool project. If you anticipate issues with the payment schedule, speak up early as the contractor may be able to move the project schedule around to protect you and your pool project. While you should not wrongly hold back payments, don’t make your final payment until your swimming pool is completed.Your previous payments during the project should ensure that construction and equipment, decking or fencing by the contract has been completed. Your final payment is your strongest insurance that your pool project will be completed as agreed. If you must make your last payment early, make sure that you get in writing a list of what still needs to be completed and the timeline for the remaining tasks. Do not pay cash in a lump sum for
your swimming pool. Most contractors expect to receive money at stages during the project. Contractors that request you to pay for the entire project in cash up front are operating illegally. Maryland Home Improvement Commission law states that a contractor can only take a 33% deposit.
TIP # 4 Communicate with your builder at all times.
Find out who will be responsible for supervising the work on your pool and keep in touch with them. Find out their full name, office and cell phone and email if available. Do not assume that the contractor will know what you are thinking about the progress of the project. If concerns, questions or comments come up, you must let the builder know immediately. Do not keep quiet or delay telling the builder. Silence and delays will only increase the cost of correcting the problem. Keep accurate records of all papers relating to your swimming pool. This information will help you maintain and take long term care of your pool. Many of the questions that might come up over time about your pool will probably be answered in the papers that you received during the pool construction.
TIP # 5 Use web resources to help learn about and plan your project.

Digitizing Your Media
Many of us born before the digital age, often have amassed a large collection of analog media. We may also have older digital technologies that we wish to upgrade to current media standards.
Some advantages of Digitizing your media, include:
*Reduction of Clutter
*Centralization your various media
*Ability to share with friends and family.
*The ability to easily make copies.
Ready to take the digital plunge?
First thing is first, organize your media. Decide what you’d like to digitize. Take inventory and see what you are able to do on your own and what makes sense to send out to a service.
Documents- I am terrible at paper management. In order to stay organized, I scan all my bills, documents, receipts and then discard them. For light scanning, a flat bed scanner will do. For higher quantity scans, I would recommend a Scanner with a sheet feeder. Very Large scan jobs can be farmed out to a professional.
Photos- Been tempted to place your high school photos on Facebook for the 30th reunion? How about digitizing your photos? Small collections can be scanned with a flatbed or sheet feeding scanner. If you have thousands of photos, you may want to utilize the services of scanmyphotos.com for $50 they will scan 1000 of your photos and provide you with a DVD of all your photos.
Negatives and Slides- remember those? For the occasional negative scan, many flatbeds come with a slide adapter. To scan an entire collection, a slide scanner or scanning service may make more sense.
Video- we will discuss a few common video formats. Please be aware if your media is recorded in the PAL or NTSC format to insure you have the correct gear. For more information on the formats, see my article “Top Tech Tips for Olim”
VHS, VHS-C, Hi8 – These formats can easily be converted to DVD with the use of a DVD Recorder. Simply connect RCA, S-VIDEO, or other supported cable from the output of your VCR or CAMCORDER, to the input on your DVD recorder.
If you’d like to manipulate and edit your footage, there are video capture devices and software that allow you to download the footage to your computer where you can make edits and then render the file as a movie to play on your PC or on a DVD.
Digital 8, Mini-DV – These cameras are equipped with FireWire connections which allow you to download your footage to your PC or MAC, once it captured on your computer, the video can be edited and converted to a digital file for your hard drive or “Burned” to a DVD.
Records – Have an old record collection? Are/Were you a DJ with lots of vinyl?
There are specialized USB turntables that allow you to convert your records to MP3 format.
With additional hardware and software, you can mix and manipulate your music. Audacity is a free audio editing program and is a good start.
Cassettes and REEL to Reel recordings With an RCA output from the cassette player connected to the input on your sound card, you can record the cassette to a digital file. With specialized software, you can enhance the sound quality of your recordings. If you don’t have inputs on your sound card, you can pick up a USB adapter.
CD’S- With programs like Itunes or widows media player, it’s easy to copy your audio collection to hard disk, and access them with the computers on your network. You can also make compilation CD’s for the road.
DVDS- With low cost disk space available, it is possible to backup your personal DVD collection to hard disk, where you can view them all in a central location. To backup a DVD to Hard Disk, you will need DVD Ripping software to convert the DVD to a usable format.
Note: In all the above scenarios, we are assuming you are digitizing your own material. Before making copies of any copyright media, familiarize yourself with the laws. In some cases you may be able to make a backup copy for your own use if you are the rightful owner of the media.
For those looking to digitize your family history, I recommend taking a look at
the book “Digitizing your family history.”
We’ve gone through various media digitization options. Once you have your collection digitized, be aware that digital files do not last forever. It is important to setup a backup and security strategy for your precious data. Please see my article on “securing your data and systems.” I hope this article has been helpful. Share your media conversion tips or experiences on the blog.
Finally, if you need assistance in digitizing or backing up your media feel free to contact us regarding our services.
