Vinyl Record Prices

Does anyone know of any record shops that carry a decent amount and variety of Reggae music in the area?

I know Everybody’s Records has a nice small selection, and Half Price may carry a few here and there. I would just like to have somewhere more specialized and diverse.

I’m open to Vinyl, CD’s, Tapes, Videos, DVD’s, etc. I would like something local, rather than buying everything individually online.

Thank you!

CROSBY, STILLS & NASH IN NEAR-MISS WOODSTOCK AIR CRASH

July 2009: Crosby, Stills & Nash’s reputation as one of the all-time great bands was almost assured after their incredible set in front of 500,000 fans and an audience of their musical peers at Woodstock Music and Art Fair, 1969. But, Graham Nash has revealed, the band almost never made it to the stage after their helicopter almost crashed delivering them to the site.

GRAHAM NASH: Getting into the concert was traumatic for me because, as we were being transported to the backstage area in a helicopter, the tail rotor stopped operating and the pilot had to slam the machine into the ground… Welcome to Woodstock!

The revelation is made in a new, limited edition, multimedia boxed set entitled Woodstock Experience, due to be published by Genesis Publications on the 40th anniversary of the iconic festival, August 15, 2009.

Having made it to the festival site in one piece, the terror wasn’t over for Nash and his band mates. Woodstock was just their second ever live performance and if the half-million crowd weren’t enough to put them on edge, the high expectations of their peers was:

GRAHAM NASH: We waited for a few hours before our show and then took to the stage for what was only our second concert ever. At one point Stephen mentioned that we were ‘scared shitless’. True, but we weren’t bothered by the amount of people in front of us; we were apprehensive about whether we could pull off a good show in front of the crowds of our peers, our heroes, who were standing at the side of the stage trying to see if this new band could really be as good as the record we had made.

Graham Nash is one of nearly 70 contributors who share their personal memories in Woodstock Experience. Others include David Crosby, John Sebastian, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker, The Band and Ravi Shankar, as well as audience members, photographers, artists and Woodstock producers Artie Kornfeld and Joel Rosenman. Woodstock’s Executive Producer, Michael Lang, is also the project’s Executive Editor and, along with his own story, provides letters, notes, contracts and more from his personal archive.

Woodstock Experience is more than simply a book. The boxed set comprises two separate volumes: Volume One is the definitive oral history of the festival; Volume Two features the previously unseen photographs of the late Dan Garson, taken as a 17-year old student. In addition there are loose-leaf essays, a specially pressed vinyl record featuring Santana and Jefferson Airplane live at Woodstock, a facsimile hand-drawn site map, a fine-art print by legendary Sixties artist Peter Max, and an original festival ticket with every set. This collection of artefacts are housed in a three-part folding box which itself features exclusive screen-printed art by leading artist and designer Shepard Fairey –  the man behind the Barack Obama ‘Hope’ posters.

Only 1,000 of these boxed sets are available worldwide, each one signed by both Michael Lang and Arlo Guthrie.

About Genesis Publications

Brian Roylance founded Genesis Publications in 1974. His aim was to start a unique publishing company true to the arts of printing and craftsmanship and to establish a community shared by its authors and readers. Years later, in 1995, he found himself explaining the nature of hand-bound books in an interview with the New York Times and noted, ‘I suppose to some extent I am stuck in a time warp. I don’t know of many people who go to this much trouble to produce a book anymore. But I think there is a future for it.’ Today, Genesis is headed by Brian’s son and daughter. Many other publishers have been inspired by the work of Genesis but few, if any, have matched the attention to design and craftsmanship for which Genesis has become known. As a result, over 35 years since work began on the first book, Genesis has developed a reputation for exceptional signed limited editions.

WHICH DJ EQUIPMENT TO GET? it’s for a present and i’m lost ><?

hi,

my boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and i want to get him something really special. he’s been wanting to start getting back into being a dj, but hasn’t been able to get new equipment…so i thought that this would be a perfect surprise. the problem is, i’m pretty clueless about the equipment…and only know a little bit from our convos and from reading a bunch of yahoo answers (which i think has made me more confused -_-;). i hope someone can help me!!

- EXPERIENCE: he’s dj’d before (a few years ago) and has stopped. he’s still got his vinyl turntables too so he has some experience.
- HOBBY or SERIOUS: i don’t want to spend like over a grand on this bc even though he says he wants to become a pro dj, i think it might turn out to be more as a hobby..:T
- PRICE RANGE: i’m thinking < $800.
- WHAT I’M THINKING: ok so i was thinking of getting a cdj package for him…like a combo cdplayer/mixer that also can play mp3s/ipod. but i’m not sure whether or not they are good…a lot of people on yahoo answers say don’t get them. but reviews of those equipment on sites like pssl.com have said pretty good things about them. so i have no clue. and i’m mostly looking at numark equipment.

QUESTION: my main question is, should i get a cdplayer/mixer combo for someone who has a bit of experience with vinyl turntables and wants to start again as a hobby possiblyyyy turning into serious (but in a few years later, not now)? if not, what are your recommendations (specifically, brand, name of equip, etc). it can be separate like 2 cd players and a mixer or something like that…but i don’t think i’m looking for vinyl turntables (although i know the quality is way better).
oh, and i also want to get a really nice pair of headphones too.

are these any good?

if anyone can help me and give me recommendations, please do!!
(sorry for the long read :| )
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Please comment on the damned poem. But please come with an open mind and some ounce of true intellect as well.?

Meaning don’t give up on it just because it’s too long or confusing to you. Sometimes you have to struggle with a girls bra strap to get to the good stuff ;) Please don’t leave trite comments like “it’s good” or “it sucks” tell me why it sucks or why it’s good and what you like/dislike about it, what I could do to improve, where it needs work, where it succeeds etc etc. Thank you for you time and consideration. Much love to all my fellow poets out there.

Oh! The passion that lurks within the misty wood, Where milky white, blushing lilies giggle sweetly in whose golden cups bees dream as they should, Ecstasy in its highest most hallowed form! Cherry red Blossoms burst fitfully amongst humble underbrush like ballerinas begging to perform, Full of youth (times stubborn yet doomed foe) and innocence (son of sin) mad like frenzied schoolchildren drunk with the glory of dreamy afternoons Napping beside the towering oak-trees blending in deep maroons who like golden gods provide awe and inspiration thundering like typhoons! On whose craggy cadaver green dews drip sighing for the sun and adding to the scattered perfume oriental palaces outdone with inviting cushions of velvet fantasy, In the damp chestnut coolness the lark steals a glance from the bowing branch poised with ghostly silence, The crow envious of all cracks the air stiff with brooding nightly presence, While the rejected moon high in heaven impatient as the wind attempts a lonely grin spilling silvered lust upon the damp heavy earth. Ah! This land of Skyscrapers built from and for love, for the singing dove honey dove! Why go back to the thoughtless price tagged globe constructed and shoved with sinful hands for greedy demands, our fading empires becoming wastelands this dank rollback muck of prices, clanking metal, rusted steel locomotives roaring, I hear an old fuzzy recording of broken industrial tongues while you and I squirm and writhe searching for some kind of romance amongst eggplant inspirations longing for your heart amongst the dirty cigaretted Dorito neighborhood streets grey and coarse where yellow and dim lay the markets past the sad blue automobiles next to freshly mown stinking grass, and neatly trimmed gardens performing for neighborhood contests, antennas like maggots on corpses line the houses on our block, our windows tightly closed, curtains frightfully shut for the black sunset, skeletons wobble a single daisy I saw with a dead fly in her ear, a child weeping from the bluest of eyes an oozing soggy petroleum tear while his mother comforts him so “it’s only a dream you have nothing to fear”
Derivative of what? And trite how? What is poetry to you? Can you explain instead of giving a trite derivative answer yourself?

Need help with my C++ project please.?

I am working on a C++ project for my programming in C++ class. I decided to make a simple home warranty program that was user interactive & would display a work order as a result. I was able to get the program to compile. I wanted to add certain features to it though, but cannot figure out how to go about adding them in in order to get it to compile correctly. For example, I wanted the program to be able to distinguish which person would receive the work order by which community name was entered in. Or another thing I would like to add is being able to add more than one defect together per homeowner and displaying a total. I have tried a number of different things, but just keep getting more and more lost. I am still having a hard time trying to understand C++ as it is, so please try and keep it simple enough to understand. Here is the sample of my code. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Need to know where to find this song?

When I was a kid my dad had us listen to a lot of different music. One song he played a lot still gets stuck in my head today. I’ve managed to track down the artist, his name is Lorence Hud. The song is called “Guilty of Rock and Roll” and it is off an album titled “Dancin With Myself”. Now my questions is where can I purchase this recording. I’ve had some luck finding the 7″ vinyl version for prices ranging anywhere from $2.00 to $60.00 plus some substantial shipping fees. Add that to the fact that I don’t have a turntable or the access to one and I’m stuck with some very pricey options to finally here this song again. If anyone can find me a link or at least point me in a good direction to finding this song/album I would greatly appreciate it.
Yes I’ve already tried Itunes and the other major download sites, this song is obscure. The artist is/was Canadian if that helps at all.
I’ve had a breakthrough, by luck stumbling onto some blog out of the neatherlands that has this song catologed but by a different artist. Her name is Bonnie Koloc and I’m sure the recording I remember hearing is of her. This is the song I need to download, any help would be appreciated.

DJ Equipment For The Aspiring DJ

For people that want to pursue an interest in DJing the best way is to get some DJ equipment and practice mixing some songs and compiling mixes of your favourite skills. The best way to learn is to try and fortunately there is a great deal of affordable equipment that is making DJing accessible to a wide range of people. For the beginner knowing what equipment to get and how much to spend on each item of equipment can be difficult.

There are certain items of equipment that are worth spending money on and certain items of equipment that you can make drastic savings on without necessarily losing a great deal of quality. This being the case it is difficult to know where to start if you are new to DJing. The best thing that you can do is to read as much as you possibly can about DJ equipment. Once you have a rough idea of what you are after then set yourself a budget.

Once you have set yourself a budget you can attack the internet with the intention of buying the kit and this is where you can research the best items. The internet will enable you to compare prices from thousands of different companies and as a result you will be able to find great deals on DJ equipment if you look carefully.

Playing device

The first thing that you need to get is a playing device from which you can play your chosen music. There are a number of different types of playing device and your choice will depend on a number of different things. You may be looking to play your vinyl collection in which case a vinyl record player is essential. If you are looking to DJ using CDs then you will need a CD player and finally if you are looking to DJ using MP3 tracks then you will need a device that can store and play these digital files. Most DJs will utilise two playing devices and these can be used together.

This usually means that the DJ can cue up a song to play after the initial song has finished. This can enable the DJ to mix tracks seamlessly so that the music continues without a noticeable pause. This is obviously a great thing for DJs that want to keep a crowd dancing and it is an indication of the quality of the DJ when the tracks can be matched seamlessly.

Amps and Speakers

Once you have a playing device you will need to find something to play your music through. You need an amp and speakers to make the sound loud enough for your audience. There are a vast range of different speakers on the market and the general rule is that when you purchase speakers you get what you pay for. The more expensive speakers are invariably better quality and as a result it can be a difficult area to save money on. That being said you can get a reasonably good set of speakers without breaking the bank and they are a very simple item to update in the future if you manage to save more money.

Headphones

Headphones are a key item of DJ equipment as they allow the DJ to listen to the track that they are preparing whilst the track that is playing can be heard by the crowd. As a result it is important to find a headphone that completely cuts out ambient noise. This means that it is much better to avoid in-ear headphones. Headphones are worth investing in so spend a bit of money for a good pair and you can keep the same pair for the rest of your career.
