Making Money: The Million Dollar Notepad

There is a tool available for making money which is so powerful that you’ll never find a successful entrepreneur without one. This tool is inexpensive, available everywhere, and you probably already have one you aren’t using. I’m speaking, of course, about the humble notepad.

If you think I’m exaggerating the importance of this little item, visit an office supply store. Take a look at the notebooks and notepads they have for sale. There will be two basic types in various sizes: simple paperback notebooks for students and elaborate vinyl or leather versions for businessmen. Next, ask yourself this question: Who would buy a $79 leather-bound journal when there is a perfectly good $1.29 notebook not three feet away?

Someone with money to spend. Someone who considers it to be very important.

You should take recording your thoughts seriously too. When you have an idea that might make money, write it down — period. No matter how busy you may be, no matter who you are talking to, scribble out 5-10 words and put the pad away. Don’t be embarrassed. If anything you will appear more professional and go up a notch in the eyes of your peers.

Even ideas that seem completely out of reach should be recorded. How many times have you had a conversation with friends that included “Wouldn’t it be great if somebody came up with an [insert great idea]?” Well, someone just came up with it. The fact that you aren’t a software programmer doesn’t mean you can’t have a great idea for a program. Pretend that you have a dedicated staff of writers, designers, and engineers at your disposal — because some day you might; and if that day comes the handful of words you stashed away will become a goldmine. There are big ideas and small ideas, use the ones you can and keep the rest for later.

Thanks to the Internet you are not limited to pen and paper. Use the notepad utility in your phone or PDA if it has one, and place a text file on your Windows desktop that you can use for quick notes. Another useful method is to create a special folder in your inbox for notes. Set your email software to put all messages in it that have subjects starting with “Idea:”. Anytime you have a flash of inspiration all you have to do is email yourself and your thoughts get neatly collected in one place. This has the added advantage of making it easy to search through your notes with your mail client’s “Find” feature.

The utility of a notepad is determined entirely by the discipline with which you use it. Most people are bubbling over with ideas that last only a whimsical moment or two and then are forgotten. Don’t let yours slip away, instead keep them close and they will become an invaluable part of your long-term success.

The Musical History Of Naim Audio

The British manufacturer produces high produces a number of audio products for domestic use; products of high musical fidelity. It was in 1969, that the late Julian Vereker started the Naim Audio Visual and thus began the odyssey of Naim. The humble beginnings were sound in a light box which was then hired out to companies in film production. The products have since shared shelf life with competition in the names of cyrus audio, Musical Fidelity, Quad Audio and other top notch audio maestros. The increasing demand for Naim Audio products has been attributed to the great after sales service.

Julian Vereker designed his own power amplifier when he was disappointed with the then available sound of professional equipment used for recording. It was in 1973 that the company Naim Audio was incorporated. Through a combination of after sales philosophy, up-gradations, quality structural architecture and performance of the products Naim Audio today enjoys a devoted fan following.

After sales support:

The company has been enjoying a boom with the increasing demand for Naim Audio products the world over. For all products ever manufactured by the company, Naim is committed to its after sales support for all. In 1971, the NAP 160, which was the first Naim power amplifier, made it to the market. In 1975 the two channel, NAP 250 amplifier was sold, perhaps one of the most well known products. The success was attributed to the fact that all the company’s power amplifiers shared a quality circuit layout.

There are a number of other Naim products like the SBL – Separate Box Loudspeaker, the ARO uni-pivot tonearm which according to many patrons has assumed cult status. As compared to the vinyl gramophone record, Naim asserted the Compact Disc as a far better medium, during much of the 1980s. As compared to vinyl, the discs that were available earlier often lost a little in transfer mode and keeping this in mind, Naim continued to upgrade.

The first CD player, the Naim CDS, created a brand out of the company and was produced with the technological advances far beyond what was available in the 1990s. Major revisions have been seen by the CDS CD player since its launch. Subsequent extensions to the line that are lower priced are often used by hi-fi reviewers. Heralded by Naim is the CD 555, the ultimate CD player which is the ‘money no object’ flagship that comes at a neat price.

Characteristics of the design:

To ensure generous and fast current delivery to the audio circuitry, the design philosophy of Naim is characterized by the incorporation of power supplies that are over engineered. As an effective and easy upgrade path for CD players and pre-amplifiers, the company also markets independent power supplies with low noise and higher audio power.

Also reasons for the increasing demand of Naim Audio products are use of materials like the iconoclastic solid aluminum black cases, toroidal transformers that are heavy, semiconductors and a unique design approach. Obsessive attention to screening, earthing and isolation from the interference of electronics, through to their preference for DIN, XLR connector and the BNC Connector are also indicative of the unique design approach. In addition to DIN plugs on most of the products from Naim, RCA phono plugs are now fitted as standard bowing to market forces.

Commercial (Business) Burglary

Ninety per cent of burglary prevention is physical security. If your complex is locked up and unauthorized entry is made difficult, time consuming, noisy and visible, chances of a successful burglary are kept to a minimum. The burglar will pass up your business and look for an easier target.

PREVENTION

LOCKS on all outside entrances and inside security doors should be double cylinder deadbolts with moveable collars. The deadbolt should have at least one inch throw containing a hardened steel insert and protected by a latch guard.

PADLOCKS should be of hardened steel, mounted on bolted hasps and always locked to prevent exchange. Serial numbers should be filed off to prevent new keys from being made.

DOORS (all outside or security doors) should be of solid construction, metal lined and secured with heavy metal crossbars. Jams around doors must be solid. All exposed hinges should be pinned to prevent removal.

WINDOWS should have secure locks. Burglar-resistant glass treatments are also recommended. An example would be the installation of polyester security film. However, this must be used in conjunction with the alarm’s glass break sensor. Heavy metal grates may be used on windows of high vulnerability (such as rear windows). Check with the Fire Marshall for safety requirements.

LIGHTS must provide optimum visibility, both inside and out, with those outside having vandal-proof covers over the lights and power source. Entire perimeter must be well lit, especially the area around doors and other possible entry points.

ALARM SYSTEM should be supplied by a licensed alarm company with a central monitoring station. Check the alarm system on a daily basis, and advertise its presence to deter break-ins.

CASH REGISTER should be kept in plain view from outside the building so it can be easily monitored and should be left open when empty and not in use.

SAFE should be fire proof, burglar resistant, anchored securely and in plain view. Leave it open when it is empty, and use it to lock up valuables when business is closed. Change the combination whenever someone with access to it leaves your employment.

BUILDING EXTERIOR should be checked including the roof, cellar and walls. Secure all openings.
MAINTAIN GOOD VISIBILITY by not allowing landscaping, boxes, trash bins, vehicles or equipment near building where they might provide concealment or access to the roof.

PERIMETER FENCES need to be adequate enough to keep intruders out, and at the same time allow good visibility of your business by neighbors and police (i.e. vertical iron bar fence or 1/8 inch mesh vinyl coated chain link).

KEY CONTROL should be done in a responsible manner. A master key system where one key opens all locks may be convenient, but it may not be the best for security. Code all keys, keep them locked up when not in use, and do not allow employees to leave them lying around or make duplicates. Change locks whenever you suspect key security has been jeopardized.

ID NUMBERS should be marked on all equipment and stickers (such as Operation ID) should be displayed to make this plainly evident to would-be thieves. The best number to use is your personal Florida driver’s license number. Also keeping a record of serial numbers on all equipment may help in recovery.

Mini Cds and Mini Dvds

Mini CD is a new form of CD that can be very useful when you only want to distribute a small amount of data like device drivers you would find with mp3 players for example. The format is mainly used for audio CD singles in certain regions, much like the old vinyl single. An 80 mm disc can hold up to 24 minutes of music, or 210 MB of data. They are often referred to as Maxi CDs in some countries.

A great way to show off your new Mini CD ROM is to use a Mini CD Case. The Mini CD Case is usually supplied with the 8cm disc when you buy a branded product. If you buy your Mini CD ROM in bulk it may prove hard to source the case that you require.

Mini CD Cases are the same as a full size jewel case used with a normal CD, but due to their compact nature they can often be perceived as offering more style.

While almost any spindle-based or tray-based CD device can utilize mini CD media, some devices have been designed expressly to use the smaller format, usually for portability reasons.

Most tray-loading CD devices have 2 ‘wells’; one sized for a regular 120 mm CD, and a smaller, deeper well for MiniCDs to fit into.

Devices that feature an opening lid have no problem with MiniCDs, as the disc can simply be placed onto the spindle as with a normal CD.

Some vertically aligned tray-loading devices, such as the PlayStation 2 when placed vertically, require an adaptor for use with 80 mm CDs which can be annoying sometimes. Slot-loading CD drives are generally incompatible, (the iMac of 1999 is an exception), but adapters are available into which one can snap an 80 mm round miniCD in order to extend the width to match that of a 120 mm CD, and thus work in many slot-loading devices. There are no adapters for business-card sized CDs.

The Nintendo GameCube for example, uses 80 mm discs for all software. The slot-loading Wii accepts GameCube discs.

As well as mini CDs, you can find mini DVDs for the same purpose.

A mini DVD is an 80 mm diameter disc like the mini CD. In normal recording, it can hold up to 30 minutes of video or up to 1.4 GB of data. Under SLP mode, which is comparable to VHS quality, it can hold up to 120 minutes of video. The mini DVD was originally developed for use in camcorders, but unlike its full-sized 120 mm counterpart, it cannot be played back in most DVD players.

Although working out at around £1 per gigabyte, they are aimed at the Camcorder market where they will nearly double the length of recording time but are also compatible with DVD players and drives that support dual layer media.

You can easily find companies doing mini CD or mini DVD replication or duplication on top of normal sized CDs and DVDs duplication and replication. They are becoming more and more popular as they offer a unique way to store your data and are usually cheaper than normal CDs or DVDs when you only have a small amount of data to copy. So think about it next time you want to do CD or DVD duplication or replication.

What do you think of this lesser known mid 70s American rock band…”Masters Of The Airwaves”?

I was digging through my vinyl a couple weeks ago and stumbled on an album I had forgotten all about. The band was “Masters Of The Airwaves”, and they released one album back in 1974 on Columbia/Epic Records.
I thought I’d throw a video together featuring two songs from that LP, and upload it to Youtube.

During the mid 70′s, these guys shared the stage with the likes of Journey, Kansas, and Aerosmith, to name a few. Their sound was sort of unique in a way…as many of their songs featured some really cool 16 string steel guitar playing. The album varies in style throughout… The first song “Back In ’51″ is a rocker with some obvious Led Zeppelin influences. The second song “In It For The Thrill” is a cool rocker, with some bluesy countrified elements, that later evolves into something reminiscent Derek and the Dominos, Led Zeppelin, and even Uriah Heep (Demons & Wizards/Magicians Birthday era), with a few of the 16 string steel guitar passages supplied by Jimmy Berick.
Not much is known about these guys…and you’ll be hard pressed to find a whole lot on the internet. I guess their only claim to fame is in that of their bassist Randy Rand, who turned up about 10 years later playing with the 80′s band “Autograph”.

So…what do you think of these guys? Here’s my video…

What is a good stereo receiver for under $150?

I’m starting to collect vinyl and I got 3 new vinyl records this year (the fourth won’t come until January due to a supply snafu), and I want to get my own stereo equipment so when I go off to college I can listen to vinyl in my dorm, too. That being said, I’ve looked around Amazon and their list is awfully shabby; I was eyeing a Sony receiver some time until I found out it didn’t have a phono port for a turntable :(

So, my question’s this: What’s a good stereo receiver for under $150? If that’s a problem, however, what stereo equipment (including a turntable) should I get that’s under a price total of $350? Thanks, your answers are always appreciated!
